The Variable Fanfic
Edited by Connor on
Authors: fierydrake, starchypancakes and myself. Thanks to MartinCohen for the stream which this fanfic was born from. http://twitch.tv/MartinCohen.

You wake up, face pressed uncomfortably against a grid of discomfort that remains as points of pressure even after you raise your head from the keyboard. The monitor springs to life and glares accusingly at you, the editor filled with a nonsense of characters. You drop your coffee cup on the floor, dumbfounded. Through bleary eyes you peer at the terminal and hit undo for what seems like hours. Were the visions that haunted that horrid dreamscape, that twisted marriage of algorithm and reality, just dreams or visions of some horrid reality lurking just beneath the bounds of your GUIs. As the text unfurls and rewinds in front of you, there is a glimpse of coherent code that appears then flashes out of existence in a moment. You pause. Was that the… The Variable? You follow the misty trails and stalk The Variable. With the light of the debugger guiding you. You hit redo again, but see nothing but the endless “fffffffjkfill;lljlkj;l” of a mid-dream face-roll. You lose The Variable in the labyrinth created by your own mind. defeated by the force of your own doing. You destroy the folder which contains all your work. You delete it with a fiery passion, laughing drunkenly. The Variable, once glimpsed, can only lead to madness…

The End.

The Variable Fanfic
The Lord sayeth:
"And now I shall impart upon thee
the truest nature of the Variable
so when thou art writing thy program
thou can verily master thy craft".

And pointing, the Lord speaketh:
"Lo, behold yon plain unadorned variable
its most deepest mistery is verily simple"

[Note from the editor]: Here the original manuscript is mutilated: multiple pages have been torn, apparently on purpose, and no extant complete copies are known to date. The manuscript resumes with an account of how God sent 256 plagues upon the land of the heretical tab indenters.
