From what I understand it runs only on PowerPC or Amiga hardware. Not everybody has access to such hardware.

For more interesting OS check out MenuetOS. That is fully open-source x86/x86_64 OS written fully in assembly language. And supports most of modern x86 hardware (GPU's, NIC, USB, etc...).

Ouch. I didn't know that. I thought it also ran on PCs.
