Tasklist Organization

@cmuratori:
Hey! First off just wanted to say thank you for doing Handmade Hero. Your attention to detail and ability to explain while getting things done keeps me glued to the show. I have already learned a ton.

What is your process for keeping track of project tasks (outside of your code)? Do you keep an external notebook or spreadsheet? What sort of things do you write down? How do you manage feature creep? How do you decide what to work on next?

unrelated - could we get a search feature in the forums?

Thanks!
Generally I just use a notebook with the tasks on it.

Search would be good, yes - I think it is actually the CSS that is the problem. I will take a look at it when I get a chance.

Anyone interested in tasklists and using EMACS should check out ORG-mode (which is built into emacs). It's by far the coolest implementation of TODO-lists I have seen.

here is a feature list with pictures!: http://orgmode.org/features.html

here is a good intro video for it [18m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgizHHd7nOo

I like it and think its cool, but I don't use it much yet. (What an endorsement!)
Cool! It is easy for me to get sucked into doing one particular part of a program and easily forget the big picture. I hope getting a note system down (and sticking to it) can help.
On the other hand, just writing down everything that would be cool to have in the game results in too many features.
I suppose there is no one right answer, but it requires experience and care tuned to the problem at hand.
