I don't understand why double buffering makes OBS display a blank HH screen on Day 235/236. Casey, records his desktop, so I imagine that OBS somehow gets access to the framebuffer the actual monitor is reading from either a composition buffer managed by DWM or I guess the game's default framebuffer if its full screen due to Window Full Screen Optimizations. Regardless of what buffer OBS is actually reading from however, it is apparent that OBS is able to display an image when the program is running single buffered, and I see no reason double buffering would mess up its ability to do this.
